Democratic Congressman Mark Takano of California is proposing a bill that would shorten the average American’s work week from 40 to 32-hours.
His “Thirty-Two Hour Work Week Act” would reduce the threshold that prompts overtime pay from 40 to 32 hours under the Fair Labor Practices Act. Takano says Americans keep working longer hours while their pay remains stagnant, and people can’t continue to accept that as their reality. He also believes “a shorter work week will allow more people to participate in the labor market at better wages.”
And, he says it would also lead to Americans having a better balance between work and the rest of their lives. The bill was introduced recently and gained traction in the House this week. For the full story, click here…
