Study: People Working From Home Have Sex, Take Naps On Company Time

May 28, 2021 | 5:24 PM

Working from home definitely has its advantages, but how much work are we actually getting done? A new survey reveals what Americans are actually doing while on the clock and working from home and based on the results? It’s surprising any real work is getting done.

The survey from e-conolight asked 1-thousand people how much time they devote to work and non-work activities during a 40-hour work week. The majority of respondents (76%) say they spend four or more hours focused on work, while the other 24% spend three or fewer hours working. Around 40% report spending four or more hours away from their computers during the work day, so what are they actually doing with all that time at home? Working on their side hustles, their love lives and more.

Here’s what the survey reveals:

  • 42% have been on a date
  • 41% have had sex
  • Close to half say they’ve had an alcoholic drink
  • Around 60% have taken a nap
  • More than three-quarters (77%) say they shop online, while on the clock at least once a week.
  • About half of the respondents have worked for another company while on the clock with their employer.
  • But all of this doesn’t go unnoticed by some employers, 44% have been reprimanded at least once for getting off-task, and 39% of people have been let go from their jobs for doing non-work-related activities.
