A pair of moms in Idaho Falls, Idaho, noticed that people weren’t showing their support for health care workers as much as the pandemic continues. Candace Jones says that in March, there were lots of people delivering things to hospitals, singing outside on balconies and more, she adds, “And now it’s just kind of quiet.” She and her friend Jenna Johnson wanted to find a way to bring joy to the people working in health care facilities in their community, so they came up with the “The Hug in a Cup initiative.”
They deliver a Hydro Flask filled with gift cards and other donated items to nurses, doctors, receptionists, custodians and others working in health care facilities. Folks who could use an extra boost during these challenging times are nominated for the token of kindness. When Johnson and Jones first shared the idea with their social media followers, donations started pouring in and The Hug in a Cup initiative took off.
“We just felt there was a need to say, ‘We still see you. You’re appreciated,’” Jones explains. “We want everyone in any health care facility to be recognized.”
